Technologies implementing autonomous smart devices into an Internet-of-Things (IoT) network are increasingly required in our society. One of the most challenging bottlenecks in achieving the future vision of such autonomous IoT devices involves powering of such systems. The most promising solution to face this challenge is based on renewable energy harvesting. The intrinsically unstable, low-power, and intermittent nature of ambient energy sources, however, requires the integration of a versatile, and cost-effective technology of appropriate energy storage units. PHOTO-GREEN envisages the fabrication of monolithic, stable and large-scale (10 cm x 10 cm) aesthetic semi-transparent perovskite solar cell configurations interconnected with graphene supercapacitors for the development of interior photo-storage devices for continuous power generation. This pleasant and exciting eye-catching photo-storage device concept will allow the designers to transform all IoT objects into continuous power generation panels, in a fashionable, economically accessible, and environmentally friendly manner. PHOTO-GREEN, therefore, addresses the following crucial scientific and societal goals: (i) development of battery less IoT devices that are rechargeable by solar energy, circumventing the intermittent nature of sunlight; (ii) creation of visually appealing integrated photo-storage devices; (iii) increase environmental sustainability; (iv) increase of economic viability of solar cell technologies.
